When asked where I find artistic inspiration for photography and posing, I decided to do a Q & A so that ya’ll can get an idea where I find artistic inspiration as well as where my cool ideas come from. (I’ve always wanted to write ya’ll even though I have never lived in the south). I’ll keep it short – 3 questions worth.
Q: Where do you find inspiration for posing, composing an image, and for stylized shoots?
A: Where do I not? I love old movies, couture magazines, magazine ads, travel brochures, foreign films, fabrics/designs, architecture, clothes, lovers & their body language (yes, I really do study this!), music!!!(I love all types of music and it constantly inspires me and gives me ideas for shoots), era’s (I’m a total vintage junkie and love to look at old photos, Etsy, history, & study the culture of what these times were like. I also gain inspiration from other art forms – painting, watercolor, images from photographers that came before me like Ansel Adams, and at times nature.
Q: Why do you pose wedding couples?
A: This is a very good question. First, I must say I don’t always pose wedding couples. The majority of my images are the couple interacting and me walking around them capturing different angles. When I do pose, it is to accentuate the way they look. I like to have a photo journalistic approach with some directing but try to steer from only posing a couple. I love to provide my clients with a collection of many different looks.
Q. Since there are different personalities and couples, do you tailor what you do to who they are?
A. Definitely! There are some couples who don’t want any posing during their wedding day (and that’s great!), and many who want to look great but need a little encouragement and direction. Each of my couples are unique and different and I love that difference! I love a wedding season that has diversity! I do my best and work very hard to make each client feel great, look the way they envisioned, and to have the best wedding experience they could possibly experience! This really is my number one goal. For the bride & groom to have a perfect day that is about them – not me!
